Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma of mandible: a case report
Background: Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOC) of the mouth is a very rare but well-known carcinoma. It is locally invasive and its prognosis is quite poor. It may originate from the walls of an odontogenic cyst or de novo from the remnant epithelium at this region. Because the early symptoms of such malignancies are sometimes similar to those of inflammatory or periodontal dis...

Primary intraosseous odontogenic squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare tumor. The incidence is low, and approximately 200 cases are reported in literature. The etiology is associated with the malignant degeneration of embryological remains. Differential diagnosis includes alveolar carcinomas, jaw metastases from other locations, odontogenic tumors, and tumors of the maxillary sinus. Howeve...
متن کاملPrimary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma arising from keratocystic odontogenic tumor.
Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare lesion that almost exclusively occurs in the jaws. Most PIOSCCs originate from epithelial lining of odontogenic cysts, especially from radicular, residual, and dentigerous cysts. A few cases have been shown to arise from keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs). This is a report of a case of PIOSCC that arose from an untreated kerat...

The case of a 58-year-old man with a large primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) of the mandible is presented. The tumour is rare, and the prognosis is usually poor. There are no specific histological characteristics of PIOC. Staining for basement membrane laminin could be a valuable aid in the differential diagnosis between PIOC and tumours of ameloblastoma origin.
متن کاملSolid-type primary intraosseous squamous-cell carcinoma in the mandible: Report of a rare case.
Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare malignant neoplasm that has an exquisitely exclusive affection to the jawbone. It is defined as squamous cell carcinoma arising within the jaw and developing from residual odontogenic epithelium or from a preexisting odontogenic cyst or tumor. The solid-type of this tumor is a central jaw carcinoma arising de novo and has no initia...
